The Nuance of Purpose

What you need to understand first and foremost is that purpose is actually circumstantial to the present moment. Sometimes your purpose is your soul's greatest passion, sometimes it's playing a role in someone else's story (whether victim, villain, or hero), and sometimes it's as simple as folding the laundry or changing your bedsheets. It's whatever is most inspiring of your drive, excitement, love, creativity, or passion in any specific moment. There is a through-line to greater purpose though. When people do tap into their soul's purpose they realise retroactively that their life has been building up to teach them the skills or soul lessons to line them up with what they're doing. Most people have multi-faceted purposes too, others' purpose might have a season in their life and then it could shift or morph into something new. Purpose is really the Universe channeling through us for both personal/specific and/or collective/broad manifestations.

I'm writing this article to help facilitate your investigation into what your souls' purpose is. Some people have an easy time figuring theirs out. They come into this world knowing & expressing, they are surrounded by caretakers & friends who help them identify & support them in it, or they just have a knowing & pull in the right direction. Others, usually those with dimensionally deeper purposes and/or more challenging childhoods, can wander aimlessly not knowing what theirs is because they've lost so much of themselves along their journey to their shadow. I'm writing this to help those who feel this sense of lostness - unfortunately it is a challenging journey back to self and to truly understand one's purpose after losing themselves this deeply it does take more than an intellectual investigation, but it will help.

Tips to Investigate Your Soul’s Purpose

Recall your Childhood Play.

 - What *societal roles* were your favourite to play as a child? (e.g. Nurse, Fireman, Police Officer etc.)
-  What *archetypes* were your favourite to play? There will likely be crossover with/distilled from the societal roles. (e.g. Healer, Leader, Saviour, Warrior, Investigator etc.)
- What were your favourite animals as a child? These can have archetypal & spiritual significance to your purpose. Search them online and observe what sticks out about them intuitively.

What Gods/Archetypes do you Resonate with?

- Are you pulled towards any specific gods or archetypes? (e.g. Sirens, Anubis, Druids, Fairies, Persephone, Thor, Angels etc)
- Compile a list and observe any larger energetic crossover - they are *all* relevant but there will likely be larger categories (i.e. gods of death are related to transformation, the underworld [unconscious/darker aspects of self], and psychopompy.)

Research the Energies of your Charts.

I highly recommend delving into your Human Design & Astrological charts yourself.
 - Human Design is more related to how to understand your personal operating system, however there are significant parallels between your incarnation cross and your channels, and what your purpose is - at the very least they overlap. Everything in a human design chart can be easily searched & found online for free, though if you're more comfortable hiring someone to read your chart that can be an avenue to pursue.
 - In terms of Astrology charts, this can be far more daunting a task unless you're already educating yourself on the Archetypal energies of astrology (do not use AI to read your chart - if you use AI write your specific placements in yourself and then ask for a breakdown; AI does *not* know how to actually read a chart yet and I've seen it spit out an entirely different list of placements with my chart). What you want to understand is that the signs, planets, and houses are all just *energies* they have vibrational flavours, associations, correlations. These energies are not set in stone. If you're a Cancer Sun you're not inherently destined to be a mother/carer (unless that lights your soul up upon hearing it of course) - these are themes just like the archetypes and roles previously mentioned. In fact the planets will likely have crossover with the gods listed prior too. For what it's worth; an astrologer can absolutely give you some suggestions surrounding what your purpose might be based on your chart - but they can also be very wrong! The best astrologers will give you an energetic breakdown and tell you what it might feel like/look like without giving you specific careers to follow.

Look for your Historical Through Line.

- List all the jobs you've had, all the careers, anything you've studied - examine each one & determine what aspects you liked most about them, what skills you've learned, what you were naturally talented at within them or what you found enjoyable to learn and integrate from them.
 - Do the same for your hobbies & interests over your life if they feel relevant.

Your Greatest Childhood Wound or Challenge.

Whether a wound/traumatic event, or just a challenge you or your parent/s faced, often the source of our drive in life is tied back to a theme in our childhoods, we are typically compelled to right a wrong, or solve a problem we faced; until we bring this into our conscious awareness and heal the emotional wound around it (if there is one) we will likely bring our wounding into our expression of this purpose and it will cause negative manifestations in our life - for example a child made into an emotional caretaker will have a natural proclivity towards some kind of counselling or healing, however will likely be doing it for free & not well for everyone around them rather than successfully building a career on it, even if they’re trying to.

Shadow Work, Transmutation, and Soul Searching.

Ultimately, all of these prior points are just clues to this purpose. If you don’t already have a grasp on what your path through this life is (whether vague or solid) then you likely sustained a large wounding to your sense of self and ability to connect to your innate soul blueprint, so the true uncovering of this purpose will be uncovering your sense of self again. As children we intuitively practice our purpose in play (hence the first point on this investigative list), so we all have this blueprint inherently. The path to rediscovering this is through somatic healing & self integration and will likely take you on a healing journey - the good news is that when you have found the keys to your healing your purpose will most likely involve sharing what you have learned with others so they can unlock similar aspects of self. Nothing on this path is in vain or somehow a waste of time - we are all exactly where we are meant to be (even when that's lame to hear).
